Since Path of Exile 2 is an online-only live service game, traditional “game mods” (like those for Skyrim) that change textures or gameplay files are strictly forbidden and can lead to a ban.

Item “Mods” (Affixes)

In-game, “mods” are the stats that appear on your gear. Understanding them is the core of “crafting.”
- Implicit Modifiers: Stats inherent to the item base (e.g., a Topaz Ring always has Lightning Resistance). These stay even if you reroll the item.
- Explicit Modifiers: Stats added by the item’s rarity (Magic or Rare). These are divided into Prefixes and Suffixes.
- Magic (Blue): Max 2 mods (1 Prefix, 1 Suffix).
- Rare (Yellow): Max 6 mods (3 Prefixes, 3 Suffixes).
- Local vs. Global: * Local mods (e.g., “100% increased Physical Damage” on a sword) change the base stats of that specific item.
- Global mods (e.g., “+50 to Maximum Life”) apply to your entire character.
- Advanced View: You can see which mods are prefixes or suffixes by enabling “Advanced Mod Descriptions” in the UI settings and holding
Altwhile hovering over an item.
Essential Community “Add-ons” (Tools)

While you cannot modify game files, GGG (Grinding Gear Games) allows certain third-party tools that follow their “one server action per keypress” rule. These are the “must-have” mods for serious players:
| Tool | Purpose | Official Link |
| FilterBlade | Essential. Customizes loot filters to hide trash and highlight valuables. | filterblade.xyz |
| Path of Building 2 | Plan character passives, skill links, and calculate exact DPS/defense. | PoB 2 GitHub |
| Awakened PoE Trade | In-game overlay for instant price-checking of items against the live market. | Awakened GitHub |
| PoE Overlay II | Overwolf app for market tracking, map mod checking, and trade management. | Overwolf Store |
| Craft of Exile 2 | Simulator and database for calculating crafting odds and modifier pools. | craftofexile.com |
| Official Trade Site | The official platform for buying and selling items with other players. | pathofexile.com/trade2 |
A Note on Safety
When using these tools, keep these three rules in mind:
- Unsigned Software: Apps like Awakened PoE Trade are often “unsigned.” Windows might show a “Protected your PC” warning. This is common for community-made gaming tools; as long as you use the GitHub links above, they are the trusted versions used by the community.
- The “One Action” Rule: Path of Exile 2 allows overlays, but forbids “macros” that perform multiple server actions with one button (e.g., a script that drinks all your flasks at once).
- PoB 2 vs PoB: Make sure you use the specific PoE2 fork of Path of Building, as the passive tree and skill systems are fundamentally different from the first game.
Modifying Your Skills (Support Gems)

In PoE 2, your skills are “modified” by the support gems you link to them.
- Skill Gems: The active ability (e.g., Fireball).
- Support Gems: Modifiers that change how that skill works (e.g., Multiple Projectiles Support makes Fireball fire 3 projectiles instead of 1).
- Jeweller’s Orbs: These are used to add “support sockets” to your active skills, allowing for up to 5 modifiers per skill.
Map Modifiers
When you reach the “Endgame” (The Atlas), you will use currency on Maps to add modifiers. These mods make the area harder (e.g., “Monsters deal 50% extra Fire Damage”) but increase the Quantity and Rarity of the loot you find.
